PRP for hair loss is a non-surgical way to fight hair loss. PRP for hair loss works for both male and female clients who want to stimulate hair follicles to grow back lost hair. This is a problem that many people face for a variety of reasons, including stress, alopecia, and hereditary hair loss. PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma therapy. This is where a patient’s own blood platelets are drawn with a needle to be used for the treatment. Even though this is a non-surgical option, it does involve multiple injections into the scalp to help stimulate hair growth. PRP for hair loss is a well tolerated procedure that many people are turning to with help compensating for hair loss.
The Eclipse PRP System For Hair Loss
At Dermatologie, we use the Eclipse PRP system to treat hair loss. Eclipse PRP utilizes a patented separator gel technology to isolate the platelets while eliminating the undesirable components such as red blood cells and inflammatory white blood cells. The Eclipse difference is also marked by the following attributes:
Fewer steps than other PRP (platelet-rich plasma) kits
Optimal platelet recovery 87% ± 10%
Optimal platelet recovery 87% ± 10%
Small volume of blood required
High volume PRP yield, low cost per mL
Consistent Platelet Concentration
Allowing for predictable performance
How The Science Works Behind PRP
The blood plasma used in the procedure contains active growth factors that can stimulate hair regrowth. Once your blood is drawn, it’s placed in a centrifuge machine to zero in on the enriched cells or platelets (PRP) and separate those from the rest of what makes up your blood. Then those specific beneficial platelets are used during the injection therapy. Those platelets have three times the normal blood values, then just the blood alone. Blood contains a bounty of red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, and plasma. By isolating those special platelets, it’s going to in essence make using those powerfully enriched cells in the PRP Hair Loss therapy, more effective than most topical solution you can try at home.
Platelet Growth Factors
Upon activation, platelets release growth factors and other molecules. These growth factors are regeneration-promoting signaling molecules, such as Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (PDGF), Transforming Growth Factor group (TGF), Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF), Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF), Fibroblast Growth Factor (FGF) and others. These molecules are shown to regulate the healing cascade, including inflammation and cell proliferation.

During The PRP Hair Loss Procedure
A very thin needle is used to inject the platelets for regrowth into the hairline and scalp. That being said, the sessions will last about 30 minutes each, depending on how much area needs to be injected and covered by the PRP therapy. Larger areas will take more time. Usually a numbing block is used on the scalp, so that the patient doesn’t feel any discomfort during the PRP for hair loss treatment.
After the procedure, your hair will be washed and you’ll be able to drive home as you normally would. Following the PRP for hair loss treatment you are able to get back to your normal life. There is little or no downtime post treatment.
Potential Side Effects Are Limited
The potential side effects of the PRP for hair loss are low, mainly due to the fact that your own blood cells are being used, instead of a foreign medical supplement. There is less of a chance for a reaction because the procedure uses platelets that come from your own body. That’s the best part about the treatment. After the procedure is over, you might have some soreness at the injection site, but this therapy is very well tolerated by most people.
The Results Over a Series Of Treatments
Most patients prefer to have this PRP for hair loss treatment performed over a series of months, with treatments every 3-4 months. This gives the body time to heal and lets the follicle do the job of regrowing the hair. It will take some time to see the results because healthy hair only grows at a rate of about a half inch per month. Be patient when looking for regrowth and you’ll be rewarded with thicker hair that looks fuller in thinning areas.
